Interviewing USG for Community:

Ayala Gate. Under-Secretary General for Community

Hello! My name is Ayala and I am the USG for Community Building. I am in my second year studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics, meaning I will graduate in 2026. My role mainly consists in speaker recruitment, managing the access program and planning delegate activities.

Why did you want to be a USG?

I chaired at both the flagship November 2023 conference and the Novice Nations conference in February 2024, and I absolutely loved those experiences. It was wonderful seeing the way a community of MUNers formed and evolved over the short span of a weekend, and I enjoyed watching my delegates gain confidence as the conference went on. I really connected with the Oxford Global team and their mission resonated with me, so I wanted to join the team to help give others the same experiences I had.

What are you most excited about re conference?

I am most excited to meet all of you! To me, the most special thing about our conference is it’s diversity - we have people from all over the world, varying in both background and MUN experience. I love getting to know everyone and learn more about their path (both in MUN and in life). Whether you are a beginner or an experienced debater, whether you are a delegate or a Chair, I think everyone comes away from the weekend having learned something. I am excited to learn from you, and I hope you are excited to learn from each other!

Do you have a favourite committee? Why?

My favourite committee would have to be SPECPOL. I am personally very interested in the politics of postcolonialism and I think the topics pose extremely interesting questions that require a lot of thought and nuance. The role of this committee has evolved and changed hugely since its creation, and delegates in this committee have to bear this rich history in mind while they debate. It’s just such a meaningful and complex committee, how could it not be my favourite!
